Found on the Hellgate Amateur Radio Club web site about the MT QSO Party origins.  (http://www.users.qwest.net/~k7vk/static/STATIC%2004-02.htm)

The First Montana QSO Party happened in the early 1970s. It was sponsored by the Butte Amateur Radio Club and the Yellowstone Amateur Radio Club in Billings. Chairmen for the event were myself(W7ARO), representing the Butte Club, and Jim Aldrich, K7TQM, in Billings. There was a lot of interest in it at that time. It is nice to see other clubs get involved with our hobby on an international effort. 73 for now.

Too bad band conditions were so poor, I felt participation would have been better if they had been better.

We will send a certificate of participation to all who submitted logs.

Thanks and 73!!
